In quite an unexpected move, Kanye West recently went into a tweeting frenzy and apologized (again) to Taylor Swift, even saying he’d written a song for her. As it happens, she doesn’t want it. After interrupting her during her VMA acceptance speech in 2009 to say she didn’t quite deserve the award, Kanye received lots of criticism for his rude gesture.
One year later, the rapper claims to have learned his lesson and, as proof of that, he even wrote Taylor a song. If she didn’t want it, he’d perform it for her, he also said.
This seems like a very kind peace offering. Not quite so,
PopEater writes after talking to some people on camp Taylor who, of course, refuse to go on the record with their name.
To the untrained eye, this certainly looks like Kanye is a nice person all of a sudden, but it’s not really so. Plus, why would Taylor want his music when she can write her own, a music insider asks.
“Taylor writes her own sounds and has been very successful at it. Why would she want to sing one of Kanye’s songs? The last thing she wants to do is give him any more attention or make him any money,” a record executive dishes.
Not few are the cases when songwriters make more money off a song from royalties than whoever is performing them. Dolly Parton’s case with “I Will Always Love You” (performed by Whitney Houston) is the most illustrative.
“Taylor is the first female solo artist in country music history to write or co-write every song on a platinum-selling, self-titled debut album,” PopEater explains.
“In addition, Swift wrote or co-wrote every song on her blockbuster ‘Fearless’ album, which has sold more than 5 million copies,” the e-zine goes to explain.
This, of course, begs the question of Kanye’s real reason for offering his song to Taylor.
“It’s just another insult that this fool thinks she would sing a song he wrote. His ego is out of control,” a friend of the curly singer says for the same publication.
“If anything, Kanye should be singing a song that Taylor wrote, not the other way around. As far as Taylor is concerned, he can take his song and shove it,” the insider puts it bluntly.
