We haven’t heard much of Taylor Swift’s love life in months but it wasn’t so long ago when it was staring us in the face whenever we opened a celebrity magazine or went online, especially given her penchant to writing songs about the guys she dated.

One of them is Jake Gyllenhaal, with whom Taylor went out for about few months three years back, and who reportedly broke up with her by phone, breaking her heart in the process. He is believed to have been the inspiration for many songs on her “Red” album, including the hit “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.”

Officially, Taylor has never said that this song is about X guy and this other song is about the Y guy, but her fans and the media have been keeping themselves very busy with such speculation. And the consensus seems to be that many songs on “Red” are about Jake.

With this in mind, know that Taylor recently spoke to The New York magazine about her album and how some of her exes react to finding out that she wrote songs about them and their relationship. Jake, it seems, was actually quite cool about it, even calling her to offer her feedback on the album.

“He was like, ‘I just listened to the album, and that was a really bittersweet experience for me. It was like going through a photo album.’ That was nice,” she says before adding as an afterthought, “Nicer than, like, the ranting, crazy e-mails I got from this one dude.”

She would have been surprised if he’d taken offense because, as she sees it, Jake should have expected this to happen, her to write music about their relationship because, after all, she’s an artist. She draws on her personal life for inspiration for her music.

“It's a lot more mature way of looking at a love that was wonderful until it was terrible, and both people got hurt from it — but one of those people happened to be a songwriter. So what are you going to do? Did you not Wikipedia me before you called me up [for a date]?” she asks.

“If I go on two dates with a guy and we don't click, I'm not writing a song about that. [I only write] songs about crazy love,” Taylor continues.
