Taylor Swift defends her writing songs about exes, calls it a double standard when everyone else is doing it too

If there's one thing Taylor Swift is known for, apart from great music, is the fact that she likes to put her ex-boyfriends in her songs. The trouble is that she only has famous people as boyfriends and that's why,  lately, Taylor has been a single lady.

But the “Shake It Off” singer has hit back, explaining to people why she keeps singing about ex-boyfriends and why they should get off her case. The pop star went on Australia's 2DayFM “Jules, Merrick and Sophie” and decided to address the issue after she's been mocked by several artists about the fact that she keeps singing about past relationships.

Taylor doesn't think it's fair that only she gets picked on for writing songs about exes

Taylor reminds everyone that she's always written about her own life in her albums, but now that she's more famous, people have started paying more and more attention. “They use kind of you writing songs about your life as a way to play detective and for me I have a really strict personal policy that I never name names, so anybody saying that a song is about a specific person is purely speculating.”

She then points out that the entire matter is a double standard, “you’re going to have people who are gonna say, ‘Oh you know, like she just writes songs about her ex-boyfriends,’ and I think, frankly, that’s just a very sexist angle to take,” Gossipcop quotes her.

In what is a very good point, Taylor explains that “No one says that about Ed Sheeran. No one says it about Bruno Mars. They’re all writing about their exes, their current girlfriends, their love life and no one raises a red flag there.”

Olly Murs defended Harry Styles, and told Taylor to stop writing songs about him

Taylor's latest song, “Out of the Woods” falls under the exact same category, as it's believed to be about ex-boyfriend Harry Styles from the band One Direction. That's why some of the people in show business starting making fun of her.

The blast came from Olly Murs, who took the side of the One Direction singer, “Come on, let it go. Write something new that isn’t about Harry. Bless him, it’s been like two years and he’s still getting lashed out, isn’t he?”

Taylor doesn't back down, however, and defends herself by saying that she would never name names, so people can make out and interpret all they want, but the song can be about anybody in the end. Swift promises to never break her rule of not naming names “The most important thing to me is about maintaining artist integrity.”
