Taylor Swift reveals new song “Bad Blood” is about a former girlfriend, not about a boy as usual

Taylor Swift doesn’t write songs only about ex-boyfriends or lovers she wishes were real. On her upcoming pop album “1989,” fans will find a track about a former female friend of hers, with whom she cut ties because the other girl was being totally mean behind her back, sabotaging her career.

Grab the popcorn, this is about to get interesting!

Taylor is the cover girl of the latest edition of Rolling Stone magazine, and the news comes straight from her, in the accompanying interview. Just like she did in the case of her boyfriends and the music they inspired her to write, she doesn’t name any names – but she goes to great lengths to stress that the disappointment was huge on her part.

Being friends with a backstabber for many years

“For years, I was never sure if we were friends or not. She would come up to me at awards shows and say something and walk away, and I would think, ‘Are we friends, or did she just give me the harshest insult of my life?’,” Taylor says.

“[Then last year] she did something so horrible. I was like, ‘Oh, we're just straight-up enemies.’ And it wasn't even about a guy! It had to do with business. She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me. And I'm surprisingly non-confrontational,” the singer continues.

Today, she tries to avoid the unnamed frenemy as much as possible, but that’s proving very challenging when they’re in the same circles. Taylor says the whole thing is very “awkward,” but she has no intention of getting over what the other girl did to her, not even long enough to pretend she’s being polite to her.

Taylor names no names, but this is about Katy Perry

“Bad Blood” is about Katy Perry, the Internet has decided. Taylor isn’t naming anyone in particular but that means nothing when you have the entire Internet at your disposal to do a quick Google search and find out who stepped on her toes last year. The fact that the dispute is about an arena tour narrows it down even more.

Last year, several of Taylor’s closest backup dancers, Leah Adler, Scott Myrick, and Lockhart Brownlie left to work for Katy Perry, just as Taylor was in the middle of her own tour. There was also a lot of talk about how they weren’t the only ones to jump ship, thus putting Taylor in the very uncomfortable position of having to get creative as she performed, to make sure no one noticed the gaps in the lineup.

Shortly after the dancers left, Taylor went on stage and dissed Katy by siding with Sara Bareilles in the plagiarism scandal that claimed Katy had ripped off her “Brave” for “Roar,” by saying “Brave” was “so original.” “Unlike ‘Roar’” was implicit.

Expect a response from Katy the moment “Bad Blood” comes out.
