Just the other day, Taylor Lautner was saying that he knew that Summit Entertainment, the movie studio behind “The Twilight Saga,” was
exploiting his rock solid abs to promote the latest installment in the franchise, “Eclipse.” In the July 2010 issue of
GQ, the actor goes a bit more into details – while also flexing his muscles some more – saying that he’ll only take off his shirt for certain parts.
Since he got buff for the part of Jacob Black in “New Moon,” Taylor has been getting a lot of attention from the media and the fans for his impressive physique. He’s not the one to complain about it though, but he does draw a line when it comes to taking his shirt off for certain parts. In other words, if a movie studio gets Lautner for a new film, it shouldn’t automatically assume there will be many shirtless scenes in it because the actor will only agree to it if it makes the character more believable.
“Originally I was supposed to take off my shirt. The script [of Valentine’s Day] said we were walking into school and Willy takes off his shirt. I said, ‘Whoa, whoa, whoa. Time out. He’s gonna take off his shirt in the middle of school? No, no, no.’ The reason I took off my shirt for New Moon is because it’s written in the book that way. And there’s reasons behind it,” Taylor says for GQ. This echoes the previous statement mentioned above, that he’d only agree to shoot certain scenes because they helped better portray the character.
Speaking of which, Taylor also says that he truly did everything in his power to hold on to the part of Jacob, even though Summit was half-convinced not to call him back for the second film because he was deemed too frail. “I’m in the gym, and I’m doing reps, and I’m reading the books, and I’m studying the character. I’m just saying to myself, ‘I want this role. I love this role. I’m not gonna lose it. And I’m gonna know it better than anybody, and I’m gonna do that extra rep, because I’m gonna be Jacob Black’,” the actor says of his determination to be the Jacob Black from Stephenie Meyer’s books that fans wanted to see.
In the same interview with GQ, Lautner also talks about the Kanye West – Taylor Swift incident, how it was like to get up on the stage at the Oscars and present an award with co-star Kristen Stewart, and how fame changed his life. Useless to say, the piece also comes with a stunning photospread in which Taylor shows exactly why everyone in the movie industry wants to put him in a film without a shirt.
