A couple of days ago, cab company Freedom Taxi let slip that, about a month back, on December 13, 2014, one of its employees in the city of Philadelphia in Pennsylvania, US, received a mind-bogglingly generous tip from a mysterious customer.

The company says that, on that day, the taxi driver, identified only as Mr. Maiga, was working the late shift. He was approached by the mysterious customer, who asked to be taken to North Columbus Boulevard. The ride lasted about 1 minute.

It is understood that, after getting into the vehicle, the customer asked the taxi driver if all was well or if maybe he was having a rough night. He then promised that he would see to it that everything would be just fine and dandy.

Freedom Taxi goes on to detail that, when reaching North Columbus Boulevard, the mystery rider paid Mr. Maiga what he owed him for the fare and added an impressive $989.98 (€844.83) tip. It's still unclear why he did so.

“The mystery rider told Mr. Maiga that he appreciated how professional he and his cab were and that he wanted to give him the enormous tip before wishing him a good night,” the cab company says.

Apparently, the reason this story did not surface in last year's December, when the incident occurred, is that the Freedom Taxi cab company wanted to wait for the payment to clear before going public with it.
