Earlier this year, in January, Nissan unveiled a new environmentally friendly cab intended for the city of London in the UK, and also announced that it was working on an all-electric taxi dubbed e-NV200.

Recent news on the topic says that, just a few days ago, a private taxi company based in Amsterdam became the first in the world to have until now added the new battery-electric Nissan e-NV200 vehicle to its fleet.

Green Car Congress tells us that the private company in question is dubbed Taxi Electric. This is because, since November 2011 until present days, its fleet has only included electric vehicles.

Besides, it would appear that the company is the proud owner of as many as 25 Nissan LEAFs that have until now covered some 1.5 million kilometers (roughly 932,000 miles).

Should things go according to plan, Electric Taxi will officially welcome the new Nissan e-NV200 to its fleet sometime this coming summer.

“This summer Taxi Electric becomes the first taxi company in Amsterdam to adopt the zero-emission Nissan e-NV200,” the Japanese multinational automotive manufacturer writes on its website.

“Taxi Electric, based in Amsterdam operate a fleet of 25 Nissan LEAF vehicles and were the first private taxi service to switch to a fleet of 100% electric taxis in November 2011,” it further details.

Interestingly enough, Nissan expects that the e-NV200 will also become part and parcel of the taxi fleet of the city of Barcelona sometime this year.
