In Taiwan

Tatung became the top LCD-TV brand in Taiwan in September, shipping nearly 4500 units during the month, through a successful price-cutting strategy, according to Digitimes. Tatung slashed prices for its 32-inch LCD TVs to nearly NT$ 28000 (about US$ 841) in September, industry sources said.

Kolin took the crown in August, after lowering prices of its 32-inch LCD TVs to less than NT $30000, and shipped more than 4000 LCD TVs in the period, the sources added. In addition to Tatung and Kolin, Taiwan-based TV brands, including Teco and PolyVision, along with the Japan-based Panasonic and Sony, all shipped more than 3000 LCD TVs in September.

On the other hand, South Korea-based brands did not perform as strongly. Samsung Electronics only sold slightly more than 1000 LCD TVs in Taiwan in September, since the TVs were newly launched, and brand recognition was not as strong as that of competitors such as LG.Electronics (LGE) and Sony.

LCD-TV sales will grow at least 10-20% in October in Taiwan, with shipments for the market growing 50% before year-end since prices for LCD TVs will continue to fall, amid a strong season, branded makers indicated. Prices for 32-inch LCD TVs are likely to be cut from NT$ 27000-29000 now, to less than NT$25000 before year-end, the makers said. Let's hope that will improve our Christmas.
