Tattoos are clear personality statements

Until a few short years ago, tattoos were a definite fashion no-no. However, times are changing and just like the exposed bra straps and the chipped nail polish, some of the previously unthinkable things are coming into fashion. The difference when it comes to tattoos is that they have always been around - but were deemed too low, insignificant, and even vulgar a topic to ever mention in the respectable fashion circles.
The "official" perception was that tattoos were for sailors, bikers and nudity-loving body-builders, not for respectable folks. Or celebrities, for that matter.

However, this perspective is no longer predominant. Despite the fact that flashing you tattoos at big red carpet events is still generally seen as a fashion blunder, tattoos are now mostly taken for what they really are: artsy, half-crazy forms of self-expression. "Tattooing gives people the opportunity to express their identity. It's a way for them to feel special and unique," says one body art expert quoted by WebMD. And with so many stars getting tattoos and displaying them without any trace of embarrassment (think Rihanna, Angelina Jolie or Megan Fox), there's little social pressure against making this decision - if you're certain it's what you really want or need.

Before rushing to the tattoo parlor, consider the following. First, don't get the tattoo in a place that's too sensitive and can get easily irritated or even infected. Think that, in a few years' time, you might want that tattoo removed: the more sensible you prove to be now with the decision you make, the easier it will be if you ever reach a moment when you don't feel like flaunting your body art anymore.

Also, think of it this way: getting a tattoo costs under $100, but having it removed about $2,000. If you can, keep it simple - a small tattoo with two or three colors. Tattoos in black, blue, red, and purple are easier to remove than yellow and green ones. Choose a tattoo parlor carefully and make sure you avoid any infections or prolonged sun exposure of the area. Keep it simple, enjoy it as much as possible, and you'll be safe.
