If you feel the need of attaching more monitors to your notebook computer but all you have at your disposal is an USB 3.0 port, Targus has unveiled a solution that might be just what you are looking for.

Dubbed the Targus USB 3.0 Dual Video Card, this compact device adds both an HDMI and a DVI output to your computer by using a single USB 3.0 port.

This is possible thanks to the DisplayLink DL-3900 chip found inside, which also supports HDCP copy protection and allows for up to six audio channels to be sent together with video through the HDMI port.

The outputs support a maximum resolution of 2048x1152, according to EverythingUSB, which means that Targus’ “video card” is more than capable of 1080p video playback.

If all this sounds OK to you, Targus’ creation is available for $99 (75 EUR), which is definitely a lot for a USB device, but it all depends on how much one needs it.
