The first application that offers Windows Phone users the possibility to place and receive video calls is now available for download via the Windows Phone Marketplace, namely Tango.

The application has been designed to offer users the ability to easily make phone calls or video calls over mobile networks, as well as over WiFi.

Video calling works like a charm on handsets that feature front-facing cameras, since users will also be able to have a look at the person they are talking to.

However, Tango also offers users the ability to make phone calls, the same as Skype or other VoIP applications.

“Make calls to any other person who has Tango installed on their smartphone, tablet or PC. Start a Tango call with just voice, and easily move into a video call when you have something to share. It’s easy to use, it’s fun, and it works,” the app's description reads.

With Tango, users will be able to chat with their friends even if they do not use mobile phones powered by Microsoft's mobile OS, as the service works on Android and iOS phones and tablets as well, and can also be used on desktop PCs.

Here are some of the main features that Tango for Windows Phone arrives in the Marketplace with:

- Free calls between Windows Phone, Android and iOS phones and tablets, and PCs - Save money with free international calls to other Tango members - Start a phone call with Tango and switch to a video call when you have something to show by tapping the camera icon - We automatically find the friends that already have Tango - No log in and password - create an account in less than five seconds - Invite your friends by Text and Email - Simple and easy to use.

The Tango application can be found in the Windows Phone Marketplace here, with support for all devices that run under Windows Phone 7.5 Mango or newer.
