Tango Studio, a Linux distribution based on Debian made for musicians and professional studios, is now at version 2.2.

The Linux platform is home to quite a few operating systems dedicated to sound, video, and graphics editing. Some are better than others, but they all try to do the same thing and get some free tools in the hand of the people who need them the most.

The advantage of Tango Studio is that you don't need to configure almost anything in the operating system and most of the tools just work, without any extra input from the user. It's a very helpful OS, especially for the people who just want to work and not tinker with a Linux distribution.

“Six months after the release of the first version, we are pleased to announce the updated of ISOs Tango Studio to version 2.2. This new version has been updated to Wheezy 7.5, contains some new features and bugfixes, as well as an update of the best open-source applications available for sound creation.”

“Users of 2.1~rc1 do not need to reinstall, the distribution can be updated via synaptic or apt-get. Thank you to all those who helped to make the new ISO's! (especially Jeremy and Jaume, also those who have tested the ISOs ~rc1 and reported bugs),” said the developers on the official website.

Unlike other distros in this class that tend to use older and more stable components, the Tango Studio developers chose to base their operating system on Debian 7.5, which is actually the latest update made to this OS.

The same is not true for the Linux kernel, which is at version 3.2.57. This is an older release, but it's still supported and it means that users can employ it safely, at least for a while.

Numerous other features and changes have been implemented in Tango Studio 2.2. For example, a quick search filter has been added for synaptic, ntpdate has been added in order to fix the computer clock, info about audio and video files is now provided via the properties of Caja, it is now possible to open shellscript with pluma, support has been implemented to kill session with ctrl alt backspace, and the TS menu has been updated with new apps.

Also, JACK2 and FFADO have been updated to the latest Debian version, the LV2 support libs have been updated to their most recent versions, news plugins LV2 (drumgizmo, fomp, x42-plugins and zam-plugins) have been added, Ardour3 is now installed by default instead of ardour2, and more.

You can download Tango Studio 2.2 right now from Softpedia.
