The new operating system is stable and fast

Tanglu, a Linux distribution based on Debian that provides a classic GNOME and KDE desktop experience, has finally reached version 2.0 and is now available for download.

Tanglu hasn't been around for too long, but it has already made an impression with the previous releases, especially with the last couple of Betas. There are hundreds of active Linux distributions out there and the majority of them are actually quite poorly designed and put together.

They are usually full of bugs and the devs don't have the necessary experience to solve them. That is not true for Tanglu, and the makers of this OS have managed to offer a quality product.

Devs took all time they needed to correct the issues spotted in the operating system and it looks like it's almost bug free. It's almost bug free only because no distro is perfect and users are bound to find problems, even if minor ones.

Tanglu 2 features proper GNOME and KDE desktops

Most Linux distros usually come with a codename and Tanglu 2 is no different. In this case it's actually a unique one and it really stands out. The new version carries the name of Bartholomea annulata, which is a species of sea anemone.

"We are glad to announce the availability of the second release of Tanglu, codename "Bartholomea." This release contains a large amount of updated packages, and ships with the latest release of KDE 4 and GNOME. Tanglu 2 ships with two options to install it: The Debian Installer (d-i) and our own live-installer. We recommend to use the Debian Installer ('Install Tanglu' option on the live-cd boot menu), because a lot of testing went into it and it does a much better job compared to the live-installer, which will be replaced with Tanglu 3."

"The KDE flavor of Tanglu received bugfix updates for the Plasma workspaces and contains new versions of the KDE applications. KDM was replaced with SDDM as default display manager. The Apper package and application manager is now run with AppStream support, making it display applications instead of packages. This is great to discover new applications. Debian's screenshot service is used to fetch screenshots," the announcement reads.

The makers of Tanglu have also added the latest GNOME 3.14, a number of default applications not usually integrated with this stack, and they have made a new flavor called Core, which has no GUI and can act as a server if needed.

More details about Tanglu can be found in the official announcement. You can download Tanglu 2.0 GNOME and KDE right now from Softpedia. The screenshot tour below is for the GNOME edition.
