The developers are still improving this new branch

Tanglu, a GNU/Linux distribution based on Debian that aims to be friendly and to cater a large user base, has been upgraded to version 2.0 Beta 2 and is now available for download and testing.

Tanglu may not be a famous distribution, but the devs have been working for quite some time on this operating system and they want to have it ready as soon as possible. By the looks of it, they want to release a very stable and high-quality Linux distribution. Until now, the Tanglu versions have been very interesting and its makers are certainly on the right path.

There are hundreds of Linux distributions out there and most of them are really bad. Not everything based on the Linux kernel will be a great OS and most of the OSes are actually pretty unusable, either because of instability, software selections, or just poor support.

Tanglu suffers from none of these issues and the devs are making sure that users will only get the best. This puts them in league with all the heavy hitters out there, but they still have to prove to users that they are worthy.

Tanglu 2 stable will be a very attractive release

The current Tanglu branch is called "Bartholomea annulata" and that has to be one of the coolest code names used until now for any Linux distro. This is actually a very important update because it brings big updates for both of the supported desktop environments, among other fixes.

"The new release brings tons of improvements, most notably GNOME 3.14 with fixed GDM autologin and a fully usable Debian-Installer (d-i). This means Tanglu can now be installed using the Debian-Installer as well, which supports a lot more features compared to our existing live-installer (which is still available to install Tanglu 2)."

"We also include the latest bugfix release of KDE 4.11 and updated the KDE applications, which now match the packages currently in Debian unstable/testing. SDDM remains the default session manager for KDE," write the devs.

Tanglu is a distro that adopted systemd pretty fast, although it's based on Debian so it shouldn't come as a surprise. As you would expect, there are still a number of issues with the system, but they should be dealt with pretty quickly.

More details about Tanglu can be found in the official announcement. You can download Tanglu 2.0 Beta 2 GNOME and KDE right now from Softpedia.
