Controversial “celebrity” trades one addiction for another

Patricia Krentcil earned the nickname “Tan Mom” or “Tanning Mom” in 2012, when her 5-year-old daughter Ana showed up in school with burns on her body, which she told teachers she’d gotten by spending the day with her mother at the tanning parlor.

When the media contacted Krentcil for comment, they saw that her skin was the color of mahogany from tanning: she was addicted to it and would hit up a parlor for as many times as 20 in a single month.

The good news is that Krentcil is no longer addicted to tanning, having traded that addiction to Botox.

Krentcil emerges, looks different, “better”

After the scandal died down and Krentcil was cleared of charges of child endangerment (she always claimed that she’d been set up, saying she would never ever take her daughter into the tanning booth with her), she tried to build a career in showbiz off the boost in media attention.

She tried singing and even flirted with a career in adult entertainment, but much like the case of other controversial moms (here’s looking at you Octomom Nadya Suleman), she eventually gave it up when interest in her dwindled and then disappeared completely.

As of the time of writing, Krentcil hasn’t been in the media since 2012, when she agreed to go a month without tanning and claimed that she would kick the addiction if it were the last thing she’d do.

Well, judging by photos she recently posted on her Twitter that were picked up by the major glossies, she’s still tanning, but she’s been cutting down on the number of visits to the parlor, because she’s a more human shade of tan instead of dark brown.

Instead, she tells Closer magazine, she’s been doing Botox regularly, crediting it for a confidence boost and even an improved love life. The photos in the gallery below show the differences between “before” and “after,” but really, considering how much she used to tan, even the smallest change can make the world of a difference in her appearance.

Celebrities are her role models

“I started reading about celebrities having Botox and realized that could give me the same confidence without damaging my skin,” she tells the British tabloid. “I couldn't believe the results.”

She admits she made a “mistake” to tan the way she did because, at 47, she is seeing the damage it’s done to her skin. Getting Botox regularly doesn’t break the bank, so she’s saving up to get plastic surgery: she wants an eye lift and treatment for her skin, to fix some of the damage done by excessive tanning.

Buzz online has it she’s already gotten breast implants and fillers in her lips, but since she doesn’t touch on the topic, it’s safe to assume a confirmation won’t come from her anytime soon.
