It appears that the rumors emerged last week were not entirely accurate, as Tamron announced today the development of the new SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC USD ultra-telephoto zoom lens.

This new lens incorporates Tamron's latest VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilization, USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive) and eBAND (Extended Bandwidth & Angular-Dependency) Coating technologies that significantly reduces flare and chromatic aberrations.

The new SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC USD features 20 elements in 13 groups with three LD (Low Disperssion) glass elements placed in the front group to compensate for on-axis aberrations and improve image quality.

Using the latest eBAND Coating and BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) coating technologies, the new telephoto lens will be able to minimize ghosting and flare even when shooting in difficult lighting conditions.

When compared with the AF 200-500mm f/5.0-6.3 Di LD SP FEC (IF), the new lens comes with a longer focal range extended by 50mm on the wide-angle and 100mm on the telephoto side. APS-C format camera users will be pleased to know that this new lens has an equivalent focal range of 233mm to 930mm making it a versatile telephoto lens for any wildlife photographer.

The tripod mount has also been redesigned to provide better stability, portability and ease of use. Moreover, the new AF system features a USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive) motor for quick and precise AF with the least amount of noise possible.

The new lens comes as a replacement for Tamron's AF 200-500mm f/5.0-6.3 Di LD SP FEC (IF) lens and will be compatible with all Canon, Nikon and Sony Full Frame and APS-C format cameras.
