The classic Tamagochi virtual pet was inially announced in 1996 and kids worldwide generally loved it. In fact, most people actually owned one at some point in their childhood. Of course, it was only a matter of time until a special phone dedicated to the classic virtual pet showed up, even though such games for mobiles have been made available for a while now.

Now it will come as one of the features loaded onto a prepaid mobile phone for kids. The Tamagochi-branded mobile phone will be retailed through a joint effort of PlayPhone and Bandai America.

Since it's a kid phone it comes with a bright colored case and includes an enhanced version of the original Tamagochi toy as a mobile game as well as custom content. It will allow its user to create a virtual pet, feed it, clean after it or play with it, attempting to be a good parent and raise a well behaved Tamagochi.

Quite typical for a child's phone, it will also come with the usual 'parent-friendly' features, allowing them to easily implement all sorts of dialing access limitations for both incoming and outgoing calls. It will also come on a no-contract pay-as-you-go system powered by Playphone's mobile storefront.

A unique feature will allow the converting of prepaid airtime minutes into mobile content credits that can be used on the TamaPhone website where kids will be able to customize their handset even further by purchasing various custom content such as colorful wallpapers, ringtones or games, without having to use their parents' credit cards.
