In what seems to be quite an expected event due to the political situation in the area, 50 people lost their lives as a cause of massive fights between Taliban units and Afghan government troops, after the former organized a major offensive in the southern part of the country.
During the nine hour fight in the Helmand province, 40 Taliban soldiers and 13 policemen were killed, according to Afghan government sources.
The deputy governor of Helmand, Amir Mohammad Akhundzada labeled the attack as being the biggest offensive launched in the province since Taliban leadership ended in 2001.
Yet, this was not the only serious incident in the area. In a separate attack, a foreign troop convoy was attacked by a suicide bomber in the city of Herat, killing himself and a US soldier.
Two other people have also died in the incident but for a reason that is still unknown their nationalities have not been debated upon.
Government offices and police stations, plus markets and shops were targeted by Taliban insurgents in the town of Mosa Qala, attacks which began on Wednesday evening and lasted until Thursday morning, involving several hundred militants.
