In what could be the beginning of the end of his career, reports say

When Mel Gibson first made headlines for anything other than his incredibly successful films, back in 2006 after a DUI arrest when he made anti-Semite and misogynist remarks at a female police officer, he managed to bounce back, professionally speaking. Now that the audio on which Mel puts ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva on blast in quite a despicable manner, it seems Hollywood is turning its back on him, E! Online says.

In other words, this could be the beginning of the end as far as his career is concerned. After the audio leaked and quickly spread like wild fire on the Internet (not at all surprising, for that matter), Mel’s talent agent quit. Until just recently, the actor was repped by one of the biggest agencies in Tinseltown, William Morris Endeavor Entertainment, so being dropped by it is like signing a death sentence for his career, the aforementioned e-zine belives.

“This can’t be a good sign. Mel Gibson has been dropped by his talent agency, William Morris Endeavor Entertainment, putting him one step closer to full-on career apocalypto. While no one official is coming right out and saying it, the reason has got to be his latest round of ‘you’ve got to be kidding’ antics, including the nasty custody situation between him and Oksana Grigorieva; the domestic-violence investigation against him, whether it holds water or not; and now, the release of the audio recording of the profane tirade he directed at his baby mama,” E! writes.

However, the recorded rant may have nothing to do with the decision to drop Gibson, the same report says. “Endeavour founder Ari Emmanuel (aka the real-life Ari Gold ) was one of the bigwigs who demanded an industry-wide Gibson boycott in 2006, following the anti-Semitic rant that rattled the hills of Hollywood. William Morris, which counted Gibson as a client for years, merged with Endeavor Talent last year. Then the Oscar winner’s longtime agent, Ed Limato, died July 3,” E! explains.

That is to say, the talent agency was looking for a way to drop Gibson ever since the merger last year and was waiting for the right time. Given the scandal and the fact that, to put it bluntly, Mel Gibson is simply not as bankable as he once was, the time is right to go in for the kill.
