14 DAY TRIAL // A new photograph released by NASA presents two of Saturn’s moons, Mimas and Pandora, in the same shot.
The picture was taken by NASA’s Cassini spacecraft and stresses the difference between the two moons.
Pandora is small in size, which means it doesn’t have enough gravity to pull itself into a round shape. Furthermore, its elongated shape (81 kilometers / 50 miles across) could indicate how other moons around Saturn formed, NASA says.
Mimas, on the other hand, appears large and imposing compared to Pandora.
The image was taken on May 14, 2013 from approximately 690 miles / 1.1 million kilometers from Mimas, and about 731,000 miles / 1.2 million kilometers from Pandora.
Saturn has sixty-two known moons, out of which only fifty-three have been named officially. Titan is the largest moon of the planet and number two in the Solar System and it is larger than Mercury.
