In fact an undersized monopod

Personally, I don't enjoy taking my own picture when I'm hiking or doing other "adventurous" activities, but there are many people who want their picture taken whenever they go someplace new. You know those couples who approach you and beg for a picture in front of that gorgeous waterfall or whatever other fantastic landscape.

Well, we might soon be free from the ordeal thanks to the QuikPod Pro Handheld Tripod, which seems to be the solution to all the problems. First of all, if you are a photography savvy, you might have observed that it's not a tripod, it's a monopod, but that's not really the point.

The working
principle is extremely simple. You attach the camera to the "tripod", set it to timer, press the shutter release button, hold it in front of you and voila! You have just added another few megs to the increasing photo archive.

The good news is that the "tripod" is made from high quality polycarbonate and aluminum components for strength, durability and portability, the bad news is that with a weight of 450g it's not that light. Regarding weight, I doubt you will be mounting anything than compacts on the QuikPod, after all, DSLRs fitted with a lens and maybe a flash can get extremely cumbersome. If you also add the weight of the QuikPod, you'll realize that only bodybuilders would be able to handhold it.

The maximum extended size of 47cm is also an issue. A monopod is considerable bigger and it allows you to use it as a walking stick, but the QuikPod will aid you in this regard only if you are a kid or crawling.

Anyway, if you are that desperate for some way to take your own picture without having to ask strangers, then perhaps you should pay $30 for the QuikPod Pro Handheld Tripod.
