Publisher Take Two Interactive has announced that it has performed better than expected in 2010, a year when it did not launch a game in its most profitable franchise, GTA, but the company also refused to talk officially about the next game in the series and when it could be launched.

Strauss Zelnick, the man that combines the chairman and chief executive officer positions at Take Two, was asked by analysts about the relationship between the publisher and Rockstar, the developer that was responsible for its greatest hits, including Grand Theft Auto.

He said that it was like “asking what's the relationship with your family” and then went on to add that Take Two did not directly command Rockstar and that the team would be given as much time as needed in order to create the best video games it can.

Zelnick says that an official announcement for GTA V will only be made when the publisher and the developer have agreed on a clear launch window, which means that E3 is a good bet for the unveiling and first limited details.

Rumors about GTA V appeared as soon as the two downloadable content packs for Grand Theft Auto IV were out, with gamers speculating that the game might move to the countryside around Liberty City, with occasional trips to the urban center.

These rumors proved unfounded and after a while new information appeared that suggested that the people at Rockstar, well known for their meticulous research, were scouting American cities trying to find the perfect candidate that will serve as location for GTA V.

Rockstar meanwhile managed to show that it can create other types of games, with Red Dead Redemption being one of the best received and best sold launches of 2010, and at the moment the developer is focusing on the upcoming launch of L.A. Noire, a game created by Team Bondi.
