Strauss Zelnick, the chief executive officer at Take Two, believes that his company can turn Red Dead Redemption into a permanent franchise, alongside the likes of Borderlands, Grand Theft Auto and BioShock.

During an investor meeting, after announcing the firm’s financial results, he is quoted by VideoGamer as saying that they want to "build other franchises that we think can be permanent, whether that's the Red Dead franchise or the Borderlands franchise or the BioShock franchise or others, Civilization, for example."

Red Dead Redemption posted solid sales for the company when it was launched, but no hints were given that a sequel could be in development.

Its total sales currently sit at 13 million and Rockstar might make an announcement about a sequel before the end of the year, after GTA V is launched on September 17.
