Video game publisher Take Two is getting the rights to the WWE license from the quickly disappearing THQ and apparently has big long-term plans for wrestling-based content.

An official statement from Take Two to Polygon reads, “We can confirm that we have entered into an agreement to publish the WWE video game series that is developed by Yukes.”

It adds, “We are very excited about the potential of this agreement and will have more to share at the appropriate time.”

It seems that Take Two has no plans to change developers in the coming years and that an official announcement for a new entry in the franchise might take place during 2013.

The WWE series was a big moneymaker for THQ initially, but interest in the activity and its virtual representations slowed down during 2012.
