The recently announced Nintendo Wii U has lots of game publishers excited, and Take-Two Interactive, the owner of the 2K Games label and long time partner with Grand Theft Auto creator Rockstar, is no exception, as the company revealed that it is quite interested in the new device.

The Nintendo Wii U, the successor to the current Wii, was showcased to the world at E3 2011 two weeks ago, and already lots of companies have expressed interested in the device including the likes of Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, THQ or Activision.

Now, Take-Two Interactive, the company behind the 2K Games publishing label, as well as the long time partner of Rockstar, the company behind hit franchises like Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption or the recent L.A. Noire, has also expressed interested in the device.

Speaking with VentureBeat, the company's executive vice president CEO Karl Slatoff said that Take-Two is certainly "looking at" the Nintendo Wii U, but that he can't really confirm any concrete project.

"We haven't announced any specific support for Wii U at this point, but anytime you've got a new platform that could garner a significant audience, then we would be interested. It is an HD platform that has the processing power to develop a compelling triple experience. If it takes hold of the market, that is good for us. So from that perspective, we are very excited about that. Again we haven't announced any support for it but obviously we have a great relationship with Nintendo, and we will be looking at the Wii U."

Sackoff continued, saying that if the company is going to start projects made specifically for the Wii U, they won't be ports or straight up replicas of the games that were already released on the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 consoles.

"We are not interested in the ability to just do straight ports," he said. "We are not a big believer in straight ports in general. For us it's more about developing for the specific capability of each machine. We focus on what the platform brings to bear. For us, if you are really going to do good job, look at the platform itself, analyze the capabilities and develop your game to take advantage of those capabilities and that is the best way to address that audience."

Ahead of the official announcement of the Nintendo Wii U, Rockstar was rumored to have been already working with the device in order to get its new games ready for release onto the device, not just on the PS3 or Xbox 360.
