Once upon a time Take Two Interactive was seen as a company that depended greatly on the Grand Theft Auto series for its success and struggled during the years when the franchise lied dormant but a string of releases, from this year's L.A. Noire to last year's Red Dead Redemption, has shown that the publisher has the ability to create new and successful intellectual property.
But
Take Two says that it has no plans to over exploit these new series and overload gamers in the short term.
Karl Slatoff, who is an executive vice president and the Chief Operating Officer at Take Two Interactive, has said, “We are trying to break new ground every time we come up with something. It's really hard to do that every single year. And I do believe you can have success for a period of time. But as far as what is the best way to manage a brand franchise so you’ve got longevity? As you move from generation to generation, that remains to be seen.”
The idea is to space out releases in the same franchise in order to allow the development teams to create titles that have innovation and a sense of uniqueness while allowing gamers the time to actually miss a certain game.
Slatoff added, “It’s not just about getting excited about one franchise and beating it to death until it dies and going on to the next. We really think so much goes into doing this that we act like we are managing a long-term brand. That’s how we approach it.”
The concept may very well be a sound one but at the moment fans are very much at the end of their patience when it comes to official news about
Grand Theft Auto V, which a new rumors says will arrive during 2012, a game that Take Two refuses to talk about officially.
