The series' custody was handed over to 2K Marin, and it's only a matter of time now

During this week's Cowen and Company analyst conference, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick made a couple of very interesting reveals about the company's plans regarding some of its more prominent titles.

He shared that the company intended to make Red Dead a permanent franchise that would sit alongside its most famous games series, Grand Theft Auto, NBA and Borderlands, but that it wouldn't happen overnight, as the company was dedicated to releasing quality content to their consumers, not merely quantity, as reported by GameSpot.

In addition to this, he sparked a hope for many fans of the BioShock series when he stated that the titles were not defunct yet, and even though developer Irrational Games dissolved earlier this year, the franchise did not yet see its full commercial potential.

"We haven't given any color on how you should think about it yet except we do believe it's beloved; we think it's important [and] certainly something that we're focused on; something 2K Marin will be responsible for shepherding going forward. I don't want to say much else except to agree with you. I think there's a lot of upside in that franchise," Zelnick said.

"It hasn't necessarily been realized yet. And the question for the future, assuming we decide to answer the question, would be 'How do you stay true to that creatively?'; 'How do you do something exciting?'; and 'How do you do expand the market?'. That would be the natural drill. We're starting from a good point on it. And certainly it's been a great piece of business for us; it's been a profitable piece of business," he continued.

That sounds like very good news, since in the industry "profitable" translates into "something new is going to come out, sooner or later."

The latest entry in the BioShock series, BioShock: Infinite, shipped over 6 million copies to date. It hasn't surpassed Borderlands 2 yet, that's sitting at a comfortable 9 million units shipped, but it has overtaken Civilization V and has almost caught up to NBA 2K14.

Although Zelnick did not provide any specific information regarding where the series might be headed in the future, he did reveal that there was a strong possibility that we would get an official announcement sometime soon, once 2K Marin figured out where to take the franchise next.

Hopefully, they'll be able to capture what made the game unique, the blend of eerie narrative, atmospheric visuals and tense gameplay moments, with its highly personal notes that added iconic imagery and phrases to the collective game lore.
