The new app allows Glass users to trigger the camera with a wink

Despite the fact that Google Glass is only available for a select few for now, apps seem to be popping up right and left.

While rumors already showed that it might be possible to wink in order to take a photograph with Glass, there’s now officially an app for it.

Called Winky, the app lets you wake Glass from standby and take a pic with a slow wink of an eye.

“Winking really changes things. You might not think it’s hard to say ‘Ok, Glass Take a Picture’ or even just tap a button. But it’s a context switch that takes you out of the moment, even if just for a second. Winking lets you lifelog with little to no effort,” said developer Mike DiGiovanni.

“I’ve taken more pictures today than I have the past 5 days thanks to this. Sure, they are mostly silly, but my timeline has now truly become a timeline of where I’ve been.”

Mike DiGiovanni is the same developer that came up with Bulletproof, the app that allows users to lock the screen of their Google Glass device.

As he said, he’s been testing out the device and even made a recording of the “wink-to-take-a-picture” process and it’s hard not to see that it is all a bit awkward. However, the photo quality is quite good.

Ever since it has reached developers, Google Glass has expanded its app collection. Aside from the basic Google Maps, Gmail and other Google-related services, a Twitter-related app has been released.

GlassTweet enables users to send images straight to their contacts once they are taken. Soon after, Twitter has also announced that it will be developing a Google Glass app.

Furthermore, The New York Times has released an app that gives users the most recent news, as well as breaking new alerts.
