Mozilla is moving forth with the development of a new flavor of its Firefox for Android mobile browser, one that will sport a native UI when released.

Currently available only in the nightly channel, the so called “Native” Firefox for Android is set to move to the Aurora channel soon, and Mozilla is getting ready for that.

The company is coming up with a Firefox test day on Friday, January 6th, when all Android users interested in getting the mobile browser for a spin could contribute to the development process to help the company move the app to the Aurora channel.

“This upcoming Friday, the first week of the new year we would love for you to solicit your support towards testing and contributing to the process of qualifying the new native version of Firefox for Android on the Aurora channel as part of our Rapid Release testing cycle,” Aaron Train, Mozilla QA Engineer, explains in a blog post.

“This event is open to all: newcomers, experienced testers, experienced developers, and people interested in testing.”

The browser is available for both smartphones and tablet PCs. The latest builds will be put on download at that time, so that any major issues that might reside in the new app flavor will be discovered and fixed.

“We will also be looking at website compatibility, and device compatibility. No testing experience is required,” Aaron Train continues.

“To cover the work throughout the whole day we have created an EtherPad test-plan. Please feel free to read and use it as a companion during the testday event. There will be moderators at hand in the IRC channel: #testday, to answer any questions you have.”

For those out of the loop, we should note that the Firefox for Android flavor featuring a Native UI is meant to offer increased performance speeds. The Native UI will load faster, enabling users to interact with the application right away.
