Enraged over the disqualifying of a Taiwanese athlete during the 2010 Asian Games, hackers defaced the website of the Asian Taekwondo Union to post an offensive messages.

On November 17, just seconds before the end of the match between Taiwan's Yang Shu-Chun and Vietnam's Vu Thi Hau in the first round of the Taekwondo competition, Yang was called off the mat and disqualified. She was leading 9 - 0.

The decision was apparently prompted by the finding of two unauthorized sensors in the heels of her socks during the pre-fight inspection, which she removed before being cleared for the fight.

The incident sparked a lot of controversy, especially in Taiwan, where the general public accused the Chinese and the South Koreans of conspiring to disqualify her.

Yang, a gold medalist at the 2008 Asian Taekwondo Championships, was seen as a favorite to win the competition, along with China's Wu Jingyu, who eventually won it.

Yang's supporters claim the decision was unfair because the athlete passed the pre-match inspection and any objection about her qualifying status should have been made at that time. In addition, she scored the points without wearing the two unauthorized sensors.

Spirits got even more heated up after the Asian Taekwondo Union published an article on its website criticizing the Taiwanese team's "shocking act of deception," without undergoing a more serious investigation.

This angered Taiwanese hackers, who retaliated by defacing the www.asiantaekwondounion.org website and posting offensive messages in Chinese and English. Some non-offensive parts read "we got no. 1" and "shame on you."

Website defacements have long been used by hacktivists to get their messages across, but some groups are more mischievous than others.

Back in July, the Pakistani Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested several leading members of a notorious hack crew called PAKbugs, which was responsible for defacing thousands of websites worldwide.
