There is demand for the iPhone 4 in Taiwan, with some 200,000 pre-orders currently pending their fulfillment, according to a report by Taiwan’s Economic Daily. However, Apple’s three carrier partners in the territory only managed to gather up 2,000 units for the phone’s launch.

Taiwan’s Economic Daily attended the iPhone 4 launch in the country, according to iphonetouch.blorge.com, which links to a Google-translated version of the report.

The folks at iphonetouch.blorge note that the iPhone 4 went on sale at midnight local time in Taipei, Taiwan where all three of Apple’s arrier partners — Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile, and Far EasTone — opened their doors to customers with a measly 1,800 units at hand.

However, the original report by Economic Daily reveals that the three carriers actually had 2,000 units to sale (200 more). This doesn’t necessarily make much difference, but it is important that we get our facts straight.

[ADNARK=1]The same source notes that the carriers told Economic Daily reporters they only expected 50,000 units to be allocated to Taiwan by the end of the calendar year. To be noted that Taiwan sits on four times that many pre-orders for the Apple handset.

The carriers, however, remain optimistic that in time they will sell Apple’s new smartphone by the hundreds of thousands, just like the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS.

Apple is known to be struggling with demand for iPhone 4 and, notably, with demand for the white version of the phone.

According to the Cupertino-based giant, the White iPhone 4 is harder to produce. The handset was delayed not one, but twice. It is yet to go on sale.

The company is also facing difficulties in fulfilling demand for the iPad. To help alleviate the situation, Apple has contracted multiple part suppliers.
