14 DAY TRIAL // Tails, the amnesic incognito Live Linux operating system that helps anyone to stay invisible online and browse websites anonymously, has reached today, March 23, version 1.3.1, a release that includes updated Tor and Tor Browser components.
According to the release notes, Tails 1.3.1 is an emergency release that includes TOR Browser 4.0.5, based on the patched Mozilla Firefox 31.5.3 ESR web browser, fixing critical security issues disclosed at the Pwn2Own hacking contest.
Tails 1.3.1 has now transitioned to an all-new OpenPGP signing key, which is currently used to sign the official ISO images of the distribution, as well as to certify other OpenPGP keys that are used by the project. More details can be found here.
Numerous core components have been updated to their latest versions
Being powered by Linux kernel 3.16.7, Tails 1.3.1 includes numerous updated packages and core components, among which we can mention OpenSSL 1.0.1e, GnuPG 1.4.12-7, FreeType2 2.4.9-1.1, tcpdump 4.3.0, libxfont 1.4.5-5, and libssh2 1.4.2-1.1.
In addition, the CUPS 1.5.3-5, bsdtar 3.0.4-3, file 5.11-2, libmagic 5.11-2, libav 0.8.17-1, libgcrypt11 1.5.0-5, ICU 4.8.1.1-12, libgtk2-perl 1.244-1, libgnutls26 2.12.20-8, NSS 3.14.5-1, and libarchive to 3.0.4-3 components have also been included.
The latest version of Tor used in Tails 1.3.1 is now 0.2.5.11
The Tor Launcher has also been updated to version 0.2.7.2, a release that brings stability improvements for Internet connections that are censored, proxied or filtered, updates Tor to version 0.2.5.11, and it now allows Seahorse to communicate with key servers.
