Tails, a live system that aims to preserve your privacy and that helps you use the Internet anonymously, has been upgraded to version 1.1.1

Tails is a distribution based on Debian and TOR technologies whose single purpose is to provide an ultra-safe environment, whether locally or online. The operating system has been around for many years, but it became more famous after Edward Snowden said that it was instrumental in this efforts to release the classified documents.

Another interesting thing about Tails is that the developers are actually unknown and they've managed to remain in the shadows, despite all the press and the attention drawn on them by the statements made by Edwards Snowden.

Tails stands for The Amnesic Incognito Live System and aims to do exactly what you would expect, and that is to leave no trace of its users. It's able to run straight from a USB stick or CD and that makes it even harder to trace anything back to original users.

"Tails is a live system that aims to preserve your privacy and anonymity. It helps you to use the Internet anonymously and circumvent censorship almost anywhere you go and on any computer but leaving no trace unless you ask it to explicitly."

"It is a complete operating system designed to be used from a DVD, USB stick, or SD card independently of the computer's original operating system. It is Free Software and based on Debian GNU/Linux. Tails comes with several built-in applications pre-configured with security in mind: web browser, instant messaging client, email client, office suite, image and sound editor, etc," reads the official website.

According to the changelog, the web browser has been updated to version 24.8.0esr-0+tails1~bpo70+1 (Firefox 24.8.0esr + Iceweasel patches + Torbrowser patches), an I2P boot parameter has been added, stricter firewall rules have been implemented, Tor has been updated to a much newer version, dhclient no longer sends the hostname over the network, the hostname provided by the DHCP server has been overridden, and OpenJDK 6 is no longer shipped.

Also, the Tails Installer no longer updates the system partition properties on MBR partitions, Torbutton has been updated to version 1.6.12.1, gnome-user-guide is now provided by default, cups-pk-helper has been installed, the SquashFS sort file option has been used, and the SquashFS image has been compressed even more, making the entire ISO even smaller.

A complete changelog can be found in the official announcement. You can download Tails 1.1.1 right now from Softpedia.
