Tagua is a generic boardgame for KDE, and it has been released a few days ago as an alpha version, with the codename "Clinks". The boardgame was formerly known as Kboard, and it includes games like Chess, Shogi and more. It is based on a powerful plugin system which allows games to share the same history, graphical framework, online playing (where the usability is medium)
and much more.

The developers released this alpha version so they could receive feedback and contributions from the community of users, and let the public know that they can send their own Tagua variants to the game creators. The best game variants submitted by the users will be shipped along with Tagua in the KDE 4 release. The Tagua team also invites artists to create and send new themes for the games.

A couple of years ago, Paolo Capriotti started the development of Kboard, with the intention of creating a complete game platform that would make the development of board games much easier and more fun. After a time period, the project got one more member, Maurizio Monge, who came with some great innovative ideas. At this moment, the game platform doesn't resemble even the old Kboard a bit, being transformed into a much more interesting game platform. The name it has now comes from a tree, the Tagua nut, in the South-American rain-forest, also known as Vegetable Ivory, which can be carved as an ivory replica, just like the software, which allows users to "carve" it as they like, giving it a more personal touch.

The 1.0 version is expected to be launched in three months, and a beta version will be released in only two months, the major bugs being fixed by the developers at a rapid pace, counting on the help received from an increasing community.
