A survey indicates that active use of mobile devices is cutting into PC time

We already knew that smartphone and tablet sales were cutting into the market share of personal computers (desktops and notebooks).

What we did not exactly have a good perspective on, however, was the degree to which even those who already had a PC, and wouldn't have bought a new one soon anyway, were being affected.

Long story short, they are being affected quite a bit, in the UK at least.

To be fair, though, we can't exactly treat it like a problem. After all, if people are more comfortable using tablets and phones, who are we to argue about it?

Anyway, the UK communications regulator Ofcom has published its 2013 Communications Market Report.

Among other things, the report shows that, even though PCs continue to be the most popular devices, they account for only 74% of all Internet usage.

That means that 26%, or close enough, prefer tablets and smartphones over them. A good deal of those use slates as full PC replacements to boot.
