Aluminum is a popular chassis material for high-end tablets, just like magnesium alloy is often found in the casings of rugged ones, and rugged laptops for that matter.

Unfortunately, marketing expectations must be met, and one of them is that prices would be dragged down to under $200 / 200 Euro, and even $99 / 99 (as incredible as it sounds).

That means that anything that can be substituted for something cheaper without outright crippling the performance has to go.

Casings, thus, will start to use plastic over alternatives, more and more.

Asustek Computer, Amazon and Google have all, quietly, consented to allowing themselves to drift along this newest current. Or they have at least decided to finally make some entry-level models, which means plastic cases.

Now we just have to wait for product announcements.
