As surprising as it might sound, there will be on-year growth

Even though the PC market has been flagging, laptops have been doing more or less well and tablets have been picking up the slack.

This must be why Canalys' latest forecast is actually a positive one.

Then again, the forecast does take into account both PCs and tablets, so the negatives are counterbalanced well enough.

According to Canalys, the latest forecast for the PC market, where said market includes desktops, notebooks and tablets, is thus: 493.1 million units will ship in 2013, 7% more than in 2012.

Tablets will account for 37% of those (they were 25% in 2012).

The numbers will increase over the next few years, until they reach 713.8 million in 2017, with 64% of those being tablets. That means a CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of 9.7%.
