While larger slates might not appeal to average consumers, businesses constitute a target

Tablets are selling very well worldwide, but in order to stay competitive slate vendors have to provide a very wide design selection.

Even if 7-inch slates currently remain the number one attraction for customers looking for a new tablet, making up 70% of total shipments, this aspect hasn't stopped China-based manufacturers from releasing a wide range of differently sized screens, say sources familiar with the matter, as reported by DigiTimes.

Some vendors have even stepped below the 7-inch threshold, releasing 6.5-inch devices with calling capabilities, in order to take on smartphones.

Chinese manufacturer Colorful instead offers a slate featuring a 13.3-inch screen that apparently sells pretty well, being priced at $238 / €174.

Many other vendors have taken to releasing tablets with larger screens, offering display choices that vary between 15.6-inch and 22-inch.

It is widely expected that larger tablets such as these are going to be incorporated into fields like medicine, enterprise or car electronics in the detriment of notebooks.

By the end of the year, tablet demand is expected to cross the 220 million margin and to go on expanding to 300 million by the end of 2015.
