NPD DisplaySearch finds that its previous forecast didn't quite fit

Back in January, NPD DisplaySearch foresaw that tablet shipments would greatly exceed those of notebooks in 2013.

Not we find out, courtesy of the same analyst firm, that tablets won't have just any advantage. They will ship twice as well as standard and ultra-slim notebooks.

The shipment figure will be of 364 million, which means that roughly 1 million, on average, will have sold per day.

Meanwhile, notebook shipments will total 177 million, give or take.

The situation will progress over the next few years. Tablets will reach 589 million by 2017, while laptops will hover at 176 million.

Of course, everyone thought similar things about netbooks up until three years ago, but tablets ruined them.

Chances are that augmented reality glasses, like Google Glass, or some other invention, will do the same for tablets soon enough.
