While there are still few tablets on sale to speak of, there are a variety of slates that are slated to eventually debut, and Wortmann decided to add an extra item to that list by unveiling the Terra Pad 1050.

Despite the initial reservations that the IT industry had in regards to media tablets, it seems that slates really are going to set themselves up as a market segment of their own.

The many iPad sales were the first clue, and the various slates announced later to be in the making have added to this assumption's weight.

Now, Wortmann has revealed that it will soon deliver its own contribution, in the shape of a 10-inch slate called, as already mentioned, Terra Pad 1050.

Unlike many tablets so far shown, which use the ARM architecture and the Android OS, this product boasts a different, albeit not new setup.

Basically, it employs the Intel Pine Trail platform, in this case represented by the Atom N455 central processing unit (CPU), whose clock speed is of 1.66 GHz.

Within the tablet, this CPU is backed up by 2 GB of RAM (random access memory) and complemented by the GMA (graphics media accelerator) 3150 integrated graphics.

There is also a solid state drive (SSD) with a capacity of 32 GB, as well as WiFi, optional 3G, a pair of USB ports and a webcam.

All of these parts, as well as the 10.1-inch screen with a native resolution of 1,024 x 600 pixels, weigh a total of 850 grams.

Finally, the machine is loaded with the Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium operating system and supports multitouch input.

Unfortunately, the product is not actually available yet, being scheduled to start shipping later this month. When it does, interested end-users will have to part with 529 Euro.
