Product concepts come out from time to time, painting an image of what the future might but probably won;t hold, and it looks like Roni Mergolin came up with something of this very sort.
Whenever some new product type appears and is popular enough in the eyes of consumers, designers begin to mess around with ideas.
Most of the
concepts they come up with usually wind up forgotten within a short time of their completion.
Still, they do help give IT companies ideas of what they might do to boost the appeal of their inventions (in addition to paining a vision of the future for consumers).
Tablets are the latest new arrivals, so to speak, that succeeded in gaining attention through rapid sales and popularity increases.
As such, designers have been working with them for months, one of the latest concepts having been put together by one Roni Mergolin.
To put things correctly, the concept, named
HiLo, seems to be focused more on a tablet accessory idea than the slate itself.
Basically, Roni Megolin has a vision of a 10-inch slate accompanied by a felt keyboard, essentially a sleeve made of felt, that doubles as a keyboard whenever the actual device is not tucked away inside it.
Made of aluminum and ABS plastic, the tablet itself has a kickstand that lets it sit up on its own. It seems to have a pair of USB 2.0 ports as well. As for the felt case itself, it uses fused,hot-pressed keys with embedded circuitry.
One last thing some may notice is the design of the tablet itself, different from most of today's slates, with an indented portion on the back.
All in all, the concept measures 280 x 160 x 14 mm, weighs 1 kilogram and may or may not eventually incarnate as an actual selling product.
