This measure is meant to stave off further shipment drops

We've just finished reporting just how much lower January 2013 shipments of large-size displays have been, compared to December 2012 and January 2012.

Now we get one of our suspicions confirmed, namely that this hasn't done good things to pricing schemes.

Then again, consumers will disagree. Lower prices points are always welcome, and this is exactly what market observers expect to see from February (the ongoing month).

Indeed, TV panel prices will go down by about $1-2 / 0.76-1.52 Euro, while monitor prices will slide around 1% ($0.5 / 0.38 Euro).

It might not seem like much, but for 55-, 65-, 75- and 85-inch TVs it could be a visible difference nonetheless. The report may also be hinting at a prolonged downward trend for 2013, or part of the year anyway.
