With all the smart TVs that got launched over the past couple of years, some people may have been fooled into thinking the industry is thriving. It is not.

As pointed out by analysts yet again, shipments of TVs in general have been dropping.

True, a rise has been registered every year, but while in 2010 the increase was of 41%, the one in 2013 was of just 5%.

A drop is expected from 2014 and following years.

Tablets and laptops are considered the main culprits behind this phenomenon, as they have been selling better and better at TVs' expense. They can easily substitute for TVs since they can stream programs over the web at any time.

TV vendors are now focusing on Smart TVs, even promoting large form factors more aggressively than ever. They intend to pull all they can out of the concept, and the 3D and 4K UHD technologies.
