The company is gunning for an Apple ARM SoC contract as Samsung is “undesirable” now

It seems that our report about Apple moving away from Samsung as a semiconductor FAB was right on the spot and TSMC is apparently doing all it can to ensure the Cupertino giant will call them when the time comes.

Apple’s next-generation SoC, the one that will likely be present in the company’s next iPad tablet will probably be designed and manufactured in 20nm technology.

TSMC is not alone in the fight for Apple’s huge wafer orders, as GlobalFoundries seems to be interested in the same sector, and the Arab-owned foundry is actually on its way to implement 20nm manufacturing also.

The Taiwanese giant foundry will reportedly invest an impressive $10 billion (€7.8 Billion) in greater 28nm manufacturing capacities and new 20nm production lines.
