It might be just wishful thinking, but a recovery is expected for the short term

The PC market, particularly the desktop sector, has been doing rather poorly for a year or so now, as demand steadily dropped because consumer interest has shifted more to mobile devices. TSMC has just received some orders that say a rebound is coming though.

Granted, the corporation has also received pull-in orders for smartphone chips, so things might not be changing at all.

Still, these are short lead-time orders, which reflect a demand replenishment, so the PC sector is definitely going to experience a surge in order, at least for a short time.

In addition to PCs, orders have come in for modem, wireless networking and finger encryption applications.

The degree to which the rebound occurs will become clear once January 2014 has come and gone.
