Bruce Boxleitner says the 2012 release was just the first installment

Disney's 2010 “TRON: Legacy,” the sequel to the 1982 release “Tron,” might not have been a critical hit, but it made the studio a fortune, which means fans loved it. A sequel is in the works, actor Bruce Boxleitner says.

Boxleitner starred in both “Tron” films, but his role in the more recent one was considerably cut down.

Asked by I Am Rogue in an interview whether he knows of any plans to resume his part in any future film, he says there's no doubt about that: a sequel will be made.

As fans must know, talk of a sequel started over at Disney even before “Legacy” came out but, for some reason, the sequel never went beyond the planning stage.

“Yes,” Boxleitner says of the possibility of resuming his role in the franchise.

“The last movie didn't end. It actually started the next movie and then went to black,” the star adds.

While he can't possibly offer any specific details on the project, Bruce insists he knows director Joseph Kosinski is in talks to come back at the helm.

By doing some simple math, given his schedule right now, this means he wouldn't be able to do a third “TRON” film until 2014, at the earliest.

“It's in the works. Anything could happen, but all I can say is, it's in its formative stages. [Joseph] Kosinski, who is slated for it, he's shooting another movie now, and then they'll get around to doing that,” Boxleitner says.

“I think somewhere around 2014, maybe. I'm talking way out of school here, but they can't shoot me because I'm Tron,” adds the actor.

He, for one, seems bent on reprising his part but whether the other members of the cast are also eager to do the same still remains to be seen.

“TRON: Legacy” also starred newcomer Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde and, of course, Jeff Bridges.
