TP-Link may not have given its dual-band router everything users may hope for, but it did, nonetheless, make its debut in this small IT field, and arguably did so in style.
Nowadays, the most popular wireless technologies are the 2.4 GHz and the 5 GHz bands.
The main problem that wireless devices run into is that they sometimes don't support both types, so this can become tricky when trying to set up a home or office network.
Fortunately, there are those little (or not so little) things called dual-band routers that can take the load off the situation.
While regular wireless routers don't support both connections, dual-band ones, like this one from
ZyXEL and
Buffalo's, do.
TO-Link is now adding its name to the list of companies with such a device, though said item can't handle both bands at the same time.
While the upcoming TL-WR2843ND does have simultaneous dual-band capabilities, the newly launched TL-WR2543ND does not.
Still, this doesn't mean the company won't make up for it through competitive pricing, though said price is still under wraps.
For those who want the specs, the router has four Gigabit LAN ports, one Gigabit WAN port and a USB 2.0 connector.
As for the insides, there was, unfortunately, nothing explicitly stated, so prospective buyers will have to buy it and see for themselves how good it is at delivering on its promises.
The product page does exist, of course (it can be found
here), but the chip on the inside is not listed along with the other specs.
Of course, those interested will have to make sure they don't have too many wireless items that lack support for 5 GHz, since constantly switching between it and 2.4 GHz is a bother that the aforementioned, upcoming TL-WR2843ND will be able to eliminate, so a little waiting might be in order.
