If you’re among those many who sneered when TLC announced a new reality show, a spinoff on its “Toddlers & Tiaras” with Alana Thompson aka Honey Boo Boo Child, you picked the wrong program for that. The latest figures by Nielsen indicate it’s a hit.

Granted, that was obvious the instant it premiered and set a new record for ratings.

With the latest episode, it’s only confirmed, as it managed to top the season premiere in numbers of viewers, as Entertainment Weekly also notes.

“Last night, the 80-pound [36.2 kg] terror of Georgia continued her rampage across basic cable as Here Comes Honey Boo Boo ratings climbed to another series high,” the publication says.

“Wednesday night’s telecast of HCHBB claimed 3 million souls. That’s a sharp hike of 30 percent from last week’s record setter. So, yes, it’s growing, and there doesn’t seem to be any way of stopping it,” EW adds.

And not only is the Honey Boo Boo phenomenon growing, it’s also threatening to overshadow other, more important issues.

Like politics, for instance.

Cue to the New York Daily News stressing that more people watched the little beauty queen’s antics than the speech of the VP candidate.

“The fourth episode of ‘Here Comes Honey Boo Boo,’ TLC's reality show about a self-proclaimed ‘redneck’ family, drew more viewers in a key demographic Wednesday night than vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan's speech at the Republican National Convention drew on Fox News, the nation's biggest cable news network,” the e-zine says.

“Among adults 18-49, the show pulled a 1.3 rating with 2.9 million viewers, according to Nielsen,” the report further notes.

Honey Boo Boo became famous on “Toddlers & Tiaras,” both because of her attitude and the fact that her mother insisted on giving her a concoction heavy on caffeine to keep her alert during long kiddie beauty pageants.

The family continues to create controversy to this day – but this time, they’re doing it on their own show.
