14 DAY TRIAL // The latest cheating scandal to keep us glued to our screens includes the most unlikely couple you could have ever expected to find under such a headline: Mama June and Sugar Bear of TLC’s Here Comes Honey Boo Boo reality show.
Earlier this week, June Shannon and Mike Thompson, Mama and Sugar’s real names, released a joint statement to say that they were taking some time off to figure things out and see if they still made sense as a couple.
Minutes later, rumors started pouring in that she caught him “cheating” on her and she didn’t waste a second to kick him out of the house.
Sugar Bear didn’t cheat on Mama June – and wasn’t planning to
The reason for the split is said to have been the fact that she found his profile on several dating websites, where he was describing himself as a single man looking for something very serious. There is zero indication that he ever met with any woman who might have responded to his message or, if he did, if anything romantic took place between them.
One source tells InTouch Weekly that Sugar Bear isn’t denying that he set up a profile on these websites, but he’s adamant that he did it for fun and that he would have never acted upon any invitation he might have gotten. He simply loves Mama June too much.
“This whole thing has just been grueling for Sugar Bear,” the tipster says. “He doesn’t like people thinking he cheated on his baby mama. He is a simple guy who is being used and it’s just sad.”
TLC is making him into a scapegoat, setting him up to build hype
If you’re wondering who Sugar Bear suspects of using him, wonder no more: it’s TLC bosses and producers who set him up this way, because ratings for the series Here Comes Honey Boo Boo have been declining rapidly and they needed something juicy to get people’s attention once more.
By painting him into the bad guy, a cheater, they’re getting a major story line that also ensures plenty of media coverage, or so Sugar Bear believes. The worst part about it is that he’s completely innocent and he doesn’t appreciate being set up like this.
“Privately, Sugar Bear is saying TLC is using this as a ploy to get ratings for their reality show. It just isn’t the hit that it once was… the fact that they are indeed filming right now when these cheating allegations surfaced speaks volumes,” the same insider explains.
Even if that’s true, it’s not like Sugar Bear can simply speak up on it and denounce TLC bosses for the liars that they (allegedly) are: reports online claim that he’s holed up with a friend while Mama June is house-hunting and that there’s security outside his door around the clock to ensure that he doesn’t feel tempted to breach his contract and talk to the press.
