Network boss shoots down talk that the show is exploiting its own “stars”

There's a new reality show on the block. Called “Virgin Diaries” and telling the story of various people who choose to abstain from making love until they're married, it's already the talk of the town – for all the wrong reasons.

The latest promo put TLC, the network behind the new show, in the worst light ever, showing a groom literally trying to eat his bride's face because he hadn't kissed her before the big day.

As we also informed you a few days ago, the video instantly went viral and, with it, it brought severe criticism on TLC for “exploiting” the “stars” of the show and coming up with yet another nausea-inducing program.

TLC’s west coast vice president of production, Timothy Kuryak, says that's far from what the new series aims to do.

If anything, “Virgin Diaries” is a celebration of love in its purest form ever, he says in a statement to ABC News.

“It seemed like one of those seminal life moments that’s interesting to follow for TLC,” Kuryak says of the topic of the show which, in all fairness, was first tried out by MTV in a series that flopped miserably.

As for the hubbub around the latest promo for the show, Kuryak says people are making fun just because they're mean. They completely misunderstood Ryann and Shanna, the unintentionally hilarious protagonists.

“We’re not trying to make light of this or treat it in a sort of trivial way. We want to document these peoples’ stories and why they make this decision,” Kuryak says.

“We want to show that this is something that can be celebrated. We love the special as it is right now, and if it does well, there could be more to come,” Kuryak he adds.

The one-hour special airs on TLC on December 4. If you missed the fun with the promo the first time around, below is the promo, in much better quality than back when we first told you about it.
